Kataifi is not Portuguese but Portugal has amazing seafood and shellfish. Some of the most Portuguese traditional dishes are seafood rice, fish cataplana, fish stew among many other dishes. However, this recipe is not traditional gastronomy but getting the very best of local shrimps with international influence.
Portuguese shrimps have an amazing flavor. Originally from Atlantic Ocean and specially in Algarve with oceanic farms, they taste delicious.
Visiting Algarve where you will find a seafood festival with amazing meals. Common to be organized in August, happens in Olhão (link to Olhão, not festival location) . In Summer, enjoy a cold beer or even a fresh green wine. Taste the flavors of the juices in the shrimp head.
Portugal has amazing beers. Market is divided by two major brands. You will have also the opportunity to taste Portuguese craft beers. Today, we have more than 600 references and becomes trendy on the last five years.
If you prefer to drink a fresh green wine its not a problem. You will find several brands as a result of a country divided in wine styles and regions.
Kataifi Shrimps with Tartarus Sauce Recipe
- 10 / 15 shrimps; (depending on size purchased)
- 200 grs Kataifi
- 125 g. Mayonnaise
- 60 g. Mustard
- 2 boiled eggs chopped
- 8 g. chopped pickles
- 4 g. Vinegar
- 50 g. Butter
Preparation of the recipe:
Start by peeling the shrimps selected. Grease the kataifi pasta with a little butter and curl in the shrimp. Try to use more or less the same quantity otherwise you will have different volumes.
Put the shrimps in kataifi pasta in a baking tray to go to the oven. The rolled shrimp should bake in the oven from five to seven minutes at a temperature of 180ºC / 356ºF .
While the shrimps are in the oven, combine the remaining ingredients for the production of the tartarus sauce.
To plate, serve two to three shrimps per person ( depending of the size bought) and also the tartarus sauce. If you like salad, feel free to add some also .
